“The dancefloor is a democracy, and there’s no room for dictators.” So says Jamie Bull, City Life DJ of the Year, resident at Homoelectric (Manchester and London), and former regular at ultra-glam SpeedQueen in Leeds.

“People vote with their feet. I think you have to make your mark within three records” he continues. “Years of DJing has taught me how to read a crowd and the dancefloor gives instant feedback”.

It’s this no-nonsense attitude that has seen Jamie pack dancefloors across Europe, with stints at Space in Ibiza, V Festival, the Isle of Wight Festival and Love International in Croatia, as well as regular appearances at Dalston Superstore, East Bloc and XOYO. And, of course, there’s his decade-long residency at Homoelectric, where his emotionally-charged sets are guaranteed to
keep his room engaged.

Jamie’s style is straight-up celebratory grooves and melodies – escapism is the name of his game, and he’s not afraid to play an anthem or two. His first love is disco, but he loves to explore derivatives of the genre, playing anything from hands-in-the-air house to soul stompers.

His 13 years working in commercial radio gave him a great ear for a hit, “I need a record to grab me instantly,” he says. “Where’s the hook? I’m a sucker for a hook.”

Away from the dancefloor, Jamie produces his own edits and has released his take on records from the likes of Diana Ross, Evelyn King and First Choice. Although original recordings will always be his true love, his talent in hitspotting and almost two decades on dancefloors (as a punter before becoming a DJ) means he knows exactly how to fine-tune a song to give the crowd that extra lift. His critically acclaimed edit of Diana Ross’s No-one Gets the Prize has been streamed over 60,000 times on Soundcloud alone.

Jamie’s passion for his art has seen him work his way up from committed clubber, to flyering for his favourite clubs, to DJing around the country. With a pedigree like his, it’s no surprise that dancers elected him president of the dancefloor.
